I've been living in Germany for the last eighteen years, have been writing for longer than I care to remember, have a PhD in Philosophy, which doesn't help at all, and have managed to publish one book of short stories under my own steam. It's called "Apricot Juice and other stories" and centers around Hamburg's night life. At the moment I'm working on a second volume of short stories, as well trying my hand at verse, too.
