Edmund Wilson, one of America's finest critics and essayists, served as associate editor of The New Republic and then book editor on The New Yorker. He is the author of numerous books, among them Axel's Castle, To the Finland Station, and Upstate: Records and Recollections of Northern New York (Syracuse University Press). Joseph Mitchell is the author of McSorley's Wonderful Saloon, Old Mr. Flood, and The Bottom of the Harbor. William N.
