Penelope Lively wurde 1933 in Kairo geboren und verbrachte dort ihre Kindheit. Seit 1945 lebt sie in England. Sie studierte in Oxford Geschichte und hat zahlreiche Romane und Kinderbücher veröffentlicht. Für ihren Roman Moon Tiger erhielt sie 1987 den Booker-Preis.
