Steeped in history and colored with detail, Alva's Adventure is set at the turn of the century in 1897 Alaska and 1901 Nevada. Threatened by fierce weather, accomplished thieves and murderers, competitive gold miners, and an unreliable partner, Alva persists, driven by past failure and sheer determination to succeed as a gold miner. He forges alliances prompted by surprising generosity, sound advice, and the kindness of strangers as well as the affection of a big, furry dog, as he faces his own fears and life-threatening dangers from men and Nature at their most ferocious.

Autorenporträt
John V. Udell lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico with his wife of forty plus years, their three legged cat Wretched and their Great Pyrenees dog Lucy. They have three children and five grand daughters. Udell is a descendent of a physician/innkeeper who left Exeter, England in 1645 after providing comfort to enemies of Parliament during the Civil Wars. He is the first in his family to fail law school, speak in front of a congressional committee, and receive a Ph.D. He wrote Alva's Adventure to honor a dear friend who died at the age of 62 without writing a single word about himself. His close friend could have done the things written about in Alva's Adventure if he had been born in a different era and been silly enough.
