Glucocorticoids-induced osteoporosis is the most common form of secondary osteoporosis. Glucocorticoids seem to cause bone loss primarily by suppressing osteoblastic functions. This book, therefore, provides new insights for the protective and therapeutic effects of leptin, dehydroepiandrosterone, growth hormone and calcitonin on predinsolone-induced osteoporosis in rats. The study focused to elucidate the effective role of the studied hormones on both organic matrix and inorganic components of bone and on the process of bone resorption and formation in long term predinsolone administration. Our finding could be useful for the future strategies against side effect of long term administration of glucocorticoids on bone turnover and implicitly osteoporosis progression.
