Lafta es un neurocirujano iraquí graduado de la Facultad de Medicina de la Universidad de Bagdad en 2006, ha trabajado en muchos hospitales de neurocirugía iraquíes y se ha formado en diferentes subespecialidades de la neurocirugía en centros avanzados de Japón, India, Turquía e Irán. Ha publicado muchos artículos en su campo de especialidad.
