This volume contains the contributions to the 1st International Workshop on the Restoration of Papyri, which was held in Leipzig from 7-9.9.2006. It provides insights into everyday practices of restoration, exceptional works of restoration, the problems posed by the materials of the mediums as well as those involved in removing them, and the dissolving of the cartonage of mummies. There are also papers on technical matters, as well as on the production of papyri and the techniques used in folding manuscripts. The documentation of restoration work, including the digitalization of objects and a new wet cleaning method, are also presented.
Die vorliegende Publikation enthält die Beiträge des 1. Internationalen Workshops der Papyrusrestauratoren, der im September 2006 in Leipzig stattgefunden hat. Es werden Einblicke in die tägliche Restaurierungspraxis, besondere Restaurierungen, die Problematik von Trägermaterialien sowie deren Ablösung und die Auflösung von Mumienkartonage gegeben. Darüber hinaus finden sich Beiträge zu technischen Fragen, sowohl zur Herstellung von Papyri als auch zur Falttechnik der Handschriften. Ebenso informieren die Beiträge über die Dokumentation der Restaurierung, die Digitalisierung der Objekte und ein neues Nassreinigungsverfahren.
