Sets forth new processing and manufacturing technologies for the next generation of ceramics The 6th International Symposium on Advanced Processing and Manufacturing Technologies for Structural and Multifunctional Materials and Systems was held in January 2012 during the 36th International Conference and Exposition on Advanced Ceramics and Composites in Daytona Beach, Florida. This symposium examined progress resulting from the research and development of advanced processing and manufacturing technologies for a wide variety of non-oxide and oxide-based structural ceramics, particulate and fiber-reinforced composites, and multifunctional materials. Sixty-eight papers, including invited talks, oral presentations, and posters, were presented by researchers from around the world. This issue features seventeen of those papers, representing some of the most important developments in processing and manufacturing technologies, including: * Green manufacturing * Smart processing * Advanced composite manufacturing * Rapid processing * Joining, machining, and net shape-forming technologies Readers will gain a solid foundation to support further development of processing and manufacturing technologies for the next generation of ceramic materials and systems. This issue represents one of nine CESP issues published from the 36th ICACC meeting. ICACC is the world's most prominent international meeting dedicated to advanced structural, functional, and nanoscopic ceramics, composites, and other emerging ceramic materials and technologies. ICACC has been organized each year by The American Ceramic Society and The American Ceramic Society's Engineering Ceramics Division since 1977.
