Løvberg made her debut in Oslo in 1948. In the period 1952 to 1970 she lived in Stockholm, interrupted by a stay at the Vienna State Opera and the Metropolitan Opera in New York. Løvberg has been a professor at the Norwegian Academy of Music and head of the Norwegian Opera. She now lives in Lillehammer. She is a Commander of the Order of St. Olav, and won a Gammleng prize in the veteran class in 2000. She is married to Børt-Erik Thoresen.
