Autorenporträt
For Mary Kay Brewster, calligraphy was the first form of art she learned from her high school art teacher, Jim Smith, at Henry Clay High School in Lexington, Kentucky. She first learned an Old English style of calligraphy and did her first manuscript, taken from Proverbs 3, which she presented to her English teacher, Carol Rambo, whom she greatly admired. Later, while attending Bob Jones University as an Art Education Major, she mastered the calligraphy style "Chancery Cursive' from Katherine Bell. From this, she was hooked on the art of calligraphy. After creating several calligraphy pieces for her family and friends as gifts, her husband Kevin pointed to a calligraphy art display in the Hickory Point Mall in Decatur, Illinois. "You could do that!" he said. That was all the motivation and inspiration she needed. She pulled out her pen and ink supplies and went to work. In a few short weeks, she had 13 various pieces to display, and started booking several arts and craft shows for her and her husband to display her work. It didn't take long to see the need for various poems for special occasions and gift-giving needs. To this end, she wrote poems to meet the requests they would receive from admirers. After 30 years of writing poems and doing calligraphy, it seemed only logical to put together 'A Treasure Trove of Calligraphy Poems for Every Occasion', A beautiful, published collection of calligraphy poems for others to share. Some of Mary Kay's favorite poems about God's love and power are the ones she loves to call "Downloads from Heaven". It is her prayer that the poems in this book will touch hearts while offering you a treasure trove of gift giving.
