Ronald M. James's previous publications include The Roar and the Silence: A History of Virginia City and the Comstock Lode. He is the executive director of the Comstock Foundation for History and Culture and served as state historic preservation officer for three decades. Author and historian Susan A. James has been the scholar in residence for Virginia City's Historic Fourth Ward School Museum since 2002. They live in Carson City.
