"I love the way you can get lost inside a poem's winding hallway," Sandra Pound writes in the first entry in this volume. "You are inside the poem until you have read it all. But after you have read it through, the poem is inside of you." In A Lifetime of Verse, Sandra takes the reader by the hand and leads the way along hallways that wind through love, marriage, children, nature, life and death, and, ultimately, God. Whether recalling her wedding day (when "Both became the byword"), or "memorizing children's laughter that bounced around the walls and halls," or inquiring of a helicopter how it goes up and down "like a giant mosquito hawk," she dives headfirst into both the ordinary and the divine and emerges with a distinctive but honest take on life. "The me inside sometimes comes out like a waterspout," she admits. And when that happens, her words find a landing place, and you find that the poem is inside of you. Sandra R. Pound, Ph.D., of South Carolina, taught high school English for more than 30 years. She and her husband, Terry, have four children and twelve grandchildren. They live in the country on a place they call Dogwood Hill, where she enjoys writing books and raising daylilies, peacocks and a few chickens. She is the author of several books, including The Angels' Greatest Message; Wade Hampton Richardson of Britton's Neck, SC; and Money: A Novel, and has written numerous magazine articles.
