Autorenporträt

William Deverell is Associate Professor of History at the California Institute of Technology. He is the author of Railroad Crossing: Californians and the Railroad, 1850-1910 (1994) and of Whitewashed Adobe: Los Angeles and the Remaking of the Mexican Landscape, 1850-1940 (2003). With Greg Hise, he has co-authored Eden by Design: The 1930 Olmsted-Bartholomew Plan for the Los Angeles Region (2000) and co-edited Land of Sunshine: Toward an Environmental History of Los Angeles (2003). With Tom Sitton, he has co-edited California Progressivism Revisited (1994) and Metropolis in the Making: Los Angeles in the 1920s (2001). With Anne Hyde, he has co-edited The West in the History of the Nation (2000). Professor Deverell is the chairman of the California Council for the Humanities and the 2002-2003 Fellow of the John Randolph Haynes and Dora Haynes Foundation of Los Angeles. In 2004-2005, he will be the Frederick W. Beinecke Senior Research Fellow in Western American History at Yale University.
