Autorenporträt
Petronius (in Latin: Petronius) was a Roman writer, a master of Latin prose, a notable satirist, and the author of Satyricon. There is no conclusive evidence regarding Petronius' identity, but it is believed that he was Titus Petronius Arbiter, a distinguished frequenter of Emperor Nero's court. His first name also appears as Gaius in some sources. He was likely the son of Publius Petronius, who served as suffect consul in 19 AD and governor of Syria between 37 and 42 AD.
