Megan McDonald wuchs als jüngste von fünf Schwestern in Pittsburgh auf. Nach dem Studium der Kinderliteratur in Boston und Pittsburgh arbeitete sie in Buchhandlungen, Bibliotheken, Schulen, beim Kindertheater und in einem Kindermuseum, bevor sie sich ganz dem Schreiben widmete. Mittlerweile hat sie zahlreiche Kinderbücher veröffentlicht. Gemeinsam mit ihrem Mann lebt sie in Sebastopol in Kalifornien.
