The Broad Road in Christian Clothing examines the spiritually dangerous distance between Christian profession and saving union with Jesus Christ. Governed by Matthew 7:13-23, the book argues that false assurance may be sustained by religious language, inherited identity, sacraments treated mechanically, remembered decisions, ministry activity, moral respectability, cultural conservatism, progressive reinterpretation, prosperity, political loyalty, spiritual experiences, or outward discipline. None can bear the weight that belongs to Christ alone. Salvation is God's gracious work in the incarnate, crucified, bodily risen, and returning Son, received through repentance and faith and applied by the Holy Spirit in regeneration, adoption, sanctification, perseverance, and final glorification. The work therefore rejects two opposite counterfeits. Antinomian assurance uses grace to reassure settled rebellion, while legalistic assurance trusts outward conformity, religious achievement, or personal strictness. Through fifteen integrated chapters, the book addresses counterfeit conversion, distorted grace, rewritten Christianity, embodiment, sexuality, pleasure, money, digital formation, ecclesial deception, conservative hypocrisy, political idolatry, conscience, Christian liberty, and self-examination. Its recurring ethical method distinguishes explicit biblical command, biblical principle, prudential wisdom, conscience, and legitimate Christian liberty, while asking when motive, mastery, idolatry, exploitation, harm, deception, or witness makes an otherwise lawful practice sinful. Contemporary scholarship and institutional evidence are used to clarify descriptive claims, but Scripture remains the final theological authority. The book's purpose is not to produce suspicion, despair, or fascination with sin. It is to expose false peace, awaken the presumptuous, protect tender consciences, call sinners to repentance and faith, restore the fallen through truthful discipleship, ground assurance in Christ rather than performance, and prepare the church to meet the returning Lord with holiness, hope, and joy.
