Domenic P. Sbrocchi was born in Toronto, December 20th, 1956 to Michael and Maria (née D'Avanzo) Sbrocchi. During his childhood, he fondlyremembers family events where there was always live music and singing of Italian songs by his father at the piano, and his uncle Fausto accompanying on theguitar or accordion. Zio Peppino (Monsignor Sbrocchi) would visit from time to time, and play some of his compositions. Domenic vividly remembers seeing and hearing the music for"Italia", and "O Cristo immortale" when he was only eleven years of age. Upon entering secondary school, he knew he wanted to teachmusic. He focused his studies on the accordion, at first with vaudevillian artist Joseph Pelissero, and later with Canada's foremost accordionist, Joseph Macerollo. In 1979, Domenic earned his Bachelor of Music, from the University of Toronto, and subsequently his Bachelor of Education in 1980, followed by a Master of Music in Music Education in 1992.
As a music educator, Mr. Sbrocchi first started teaching privately in 1972. Currently, he resides in Mississauga, and is Arts Department Head, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel S. S., one of Ontario's finest catholic schools. He is an active advocate for music education.
For Domenic, this project has been an intense and rewarding experience. Each composition represents an event in Monsignor Sbrocchi's life, a sort of musical biography. As they worked together through this collection of music, a marvelous bond developed between uncle and nephew.
Mr. Sbrocchi wishes to acknowledge his wife Elizabeth, and children Michael, Pasquale, and Maria Natalie, for their patience and support while he worked on this project.
Here we have a collection of music and poetry, almost all of which are poetry and music by Msgr. Joseph A. Sbrocchi, P.H. Msgr. Sbrocchi composed these pieces primarily for use in the liturgy and for other religious occasions.
I have had the privilege of knowing some of these compositions as they were being composed over many years - pieces that are truly rich in text and music. Most of the pieces are in the Italian language though some are also in Latin and in English.
These compositions provide a source of good poetry and music for the liturgical needs of our Italian language parishes. I am very happy to see these pieces published in a collection.
