Wouter J. Hanegraaff is Professor of History of Hermetic Philosophy and Related Currents at the University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands. He has published extensively on the history of esotericism from antiquity to the present, including monographs about Hermetic Spirituality in Roman Egypt, the Christian Hermetist Lodovico Lazzarelli, the Swedish visionary Emanuel Swedenborg, and the New Age movement.
