There's a moment, just after the water, when a new life begins.
At every baptism in the Episcopal Church, a question is asked and a promise is given: Will you...? I will, with God's help. Five commitments. One honest admission that we can't live them alone.
I Will, With God's Help is an 8-week guided study that walks you through the entire Baptismal Covenant from the Book of Common Prayer, the promises that shape what life looks like on this side of the water. Whether you've said these words at a font, witnessed someone else say them, or you've never heard of the Baptismal Covenant at all, this study will help you understand what you believe and how that belief is meant to shape the way you live.
Each week centers on one piece of the Covenant:
- Who God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are, and what it means to be made in His image
- The rhythms that shape a faithful life: teaching, fellowship, breaking bread, and prayer
- Resisting evil and what it really means to repent and return
- Proclaiming the Good News without it feeling like a performance
- Seeing Christ in every person, even the ones who are hardest to love
- Pursuing justice and peace as a normal part of following Jesus, not an extra credit assignment
Inside each week, you'll find five days of Scripture-centered study with honest commentary and thoughtful questions that won't let you off the hook with easy answers, a corresponding psalm to pray, and a "Living the Covenant" practice to carry the week's theme into your actual, everyday life.
This isn't a study that hands you more rules to follow. It's an invitation to lean into the life you've already begun, to remember who God is, who you are because of Him, and the quiet, steady confidence that comes from knowing you were never asked to do any of this on your own.
Perfect for individual devotional use, small groups, confirmation classes, or anyone preparing for baptism or renewing their own. Rooted in the Episcopal and Anglican tradition, but written for every follower of Jesus who wants their faith to be lived, not just believed.
You came up out of the water. This study is about what happens next.
