Ten years in the U.S Army and Navy at the Turn of the 20th Century This is an usual book on two counts. Firstly, it concerns the activities of an American serviceman in theatres of his nations conflicts which are. comparatively rarely documented. Secondly, the author, William Adams served in both the army and the navy during his career under,'Old Glory'. Adams enlisted in a prestigious cavalry regiment in the last years of the 19th century-'The Governor's Troop', Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry for service in the Spanish-American War of 1898. Thereafter he joined the Marines which took him to adventures in Morocco, Egypt, Singapore, Hong Kong and Japan. The United States had been engaged in a long running struggle-known as the Moro Rebellion or the Moro-American War- with hostile Moro (Muslim) elements in the southern Philippines and Adams also engrossingly reports on his part as a foot soldier with the 29th Infantry in the conflict. This first-hand account Leonaur edition has been complimented by a brief history of the services of the Philadelphia City Cavalry during the Puerto Rican Campaign,1898. Leonaur editions are newly typeset and are not facsimiles; each title is available in softcover and hardback with dustjacket.
