Portrait

Dr. Priyank Kumar is an Associate professor and Head of the Department of Space Engineering and Rocketry at the Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) Ranchi. He holds a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from BIT Mesra. He has academic and research experience in aerodynamics, fluid mechanics, wind tunnel testing, and bluff-body flow analysis. His professional background includes teaching, research, and prior work in industry, along with involvement in several sponsored research projects supported by national funding agencies. Dr. Kumar has served in multiple academic and administrative roles within the institute, including coordination of laboratories, academic initiatives, and innovation-related activities. He is a fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India), a member of National Academy of Science India (NASI) and Fluid Mechanics and Fluid Power (FMFP).His research interests include low-speed aerodynamics, wind-tunnel experimentation, missile aerodynamics, high-angle-of-attack flows, and applied computational and experimental methods. Dr. Santanu Ghosh is a Professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras. His academic work is centred on computational fluid dynamics, with particular emphasis on immersed-boundary methods and their applications to complex and turbulent flows. His research includes the formulation and assessment of algorithms for flow reconstruction near immersed boundaries, simulations of shock-wave/boundary-layer interactions and its control, transition modelling, performance analysis of morphing wings, and flapping-wing aerodynamics. Dr. Ghosh has published his work in several journals in aerospace and mechanical engineering and also presented at multiple international conferences. His work spans both fundamental aspects of numerical method development and applied studies relevant to aerodynamic performance and flow physics. At IIT Madras, he teaches core and elective courses on Fluid mechanics and Computational methods, and supervises doctoral and master’s theses in related areas.
