Perfect On Paper

sehr schöne story. sehr rom-com-ish. sehr tolle Charaktere, sehr tolle premise, sehr tolle Interaktionen als Folge. hab es sehr sehr genossen, wie man sieht.

Perfect on Paper ist eines meiner absoluten Lieblingsbücher. Es ist sehr realistisch und man findet sich schnell in die Charaktere ein. Besonders die Gefühlswelt der Protagonistin ist toll dargestellt: ihre Probleme, ihre Selbstzweifel und wie sie diese angeht, Authentisch, humorvoll und einfühlsam!

Perfect on Paper‘s bi protagonist is the reason I picked this one up. I haven’t been in much of a contemporary YA mood recently, but I saw people mentioning this deals with (internalised) bimisia. If that’s something that interests you as well, do consider giving this one a try! „Perfect on Paper“ in a nutshell: - Darcy runs an anonymous relationship advice business - ends up using her influence in a rather selfish way when Brooke, the girl she has a crush on, seems to get with other girls - also gets caught running her business and subsequently has to advice Alexander on how to maybe get back with his ex-girlfriend - (hurt) feelings ensue, plus plenty of banter much to my delight It is a fun story. Darcy is one hell of a messy protagonist whose mistakes don’t get glossed over, and I appreciated that. The book delves a bit deeper into where the characters‘ actions and motivations are coming from: relationships with family and parents, fear of abandonment, not being seen and accepted for who you are. Seeing Darcy and Alexander getting to know each other was genuinely fun and heartwarming, so much I didn’t actually care if they ended up together or not, as long as they’d still have each other in their lives. I would’ve preferred it if the discussion of bimisia was … incorporated a bit more. The way it was done, it felt like: main plot, a little excursion into bimisia including in queer spaces, now some more plot to tie things off. That’s not to say that everything said on being bi and bimisia wasn’t important or affirming, because it absolutely was. So. Interested in contemp YA?
