America was not born through politics but through refusal. In 1776, ordinary men and women said no to a distant king. They rejected taxes imposed without consent, soldiers quartered in their homes, and courts that answered only to the crown. They stood as sovereigns and placed the world on notice with the Declaration of Independence. From Subjects to Sovereigns is a call to remember that spirit. It is more than a history book. It is a reminder that sovereignty is personal, not granted by rulers or written on paper. The Bill of Rights does not give freedom. It chains government and confirms that freedom already belongs to the people. Across nine powerful chapters, this book explores the key truths of 1776 and shows how they remain relevant today: ¿ How the colonists lived as subjects until they withdrew consent ¿ Why the Declaration of Independence is a lawful notice, not a plea ¿ The common law heritage that protects life, liberty, and property ¿ How Washington became the new crown after independence ¿ Why the Bill of Rights is a cage for rulers, not a gift to the governed ¿ The meaning of "no taxation without representation" then and now ¿ The danger of standing armies and militarised police ¿ The power of the jury as the people's weapon against tyranny ¿ How licenses and permissions turn freedom into privilege Roger Davies writes with urgency and clarity, cutting through myths and exposing how silence allows presumption to rule. Each chapter reminds readers that rights unused are treated as abandoned, and that freedom survives only when it is lived. This book is for those who refuse to beg for liberty from rulers. It is for readers who know that sovereignty is a daily choice. Whether you are a student of history, a defender of constitutional rights, or someone who senses that something is wrong with the modern system, this book will challenge you to act. From Subjects to Sovereigns does not call for rebellion. It calls for honor. It calls for lawful notice, for proof of claim, and for living by the maxim: do no harm, cause no loss, commit no fraud. The colonists proved that tyranny collapses when the people speak. The same is true today. If you believe freedom is your birthright, this book will speak to you. If you have ever wondered whether statutes, licenses, and taxes are binding without your consent, you will find answers here. And if you are ready to reclaim the Spirit of 1776 in your own life, this book will show you how to stand. The choice is the same as it was in 1776: subject or sovereign.
