One by One The breath-taking thriller from the queen of the modern-day murder mystery

Having been a devoted fan of Agatha Christie novels in my youth, Ruth Ware certainly doesn’t disappoint when it comes to carrying that tradition into a 21st-century setting. After devouring The Woman in Cabin 10 and its sequel, The Woman in Suite 11, One by One was next on my list. And it did not disappoint. One by One is a suspenseful mystery narrated from the perspectives of two characters — a format I found particularly compelling and different from other novels I’ve read. From the very beginning, the dual perspectives create an added layer of suspense, as we’re given two versions of events and two very different perceptions. As the story unfolds, the lines between truth and deception begin to blur, leaving you wondering which narrator, if either, you can truly rely on. (No spoilers here!) If you’re looking for a book with a suspenseful setting, a touch of luxury, plenty of plot twists, and a lingering sense of mystery — all wrapped up in a captivating, Agatha Christie-esque style with a modern twist — One by One is definitely worth picking up.
