After graduating primary school with top marks, she adopted a clever little dog and decided to work by giving lessons to help her sick father, until it was time for her to continue her studies. At the same time, Madame Lizier, a famous French dressmaker who designed gowns for the queen and wealthy ladies, hired her to work in her atelier - what luck!
But on the very first day, wild bandits stormed the atelier, kidnapped Amalia, and took her to their hideout in the mountains - what misfortune! And it's her brilliant little dog that will come to her aid at the critical moment.
But can a little dog really stand up to bandits?
And in the end, will our girl be lucky or unlucky? Will she manage to escape from the bandits' cave? I know, but I won't spoil it for you. You'll have to read and find out.
As you've probably realized, the heroine of this series is Amalia. From book to book, we'll live with her all she went through and all the clever tricks she came up with to overcome the obstacles in her path. We'll laugh and cry until we see her become a teacher.
"I wanted girls to understand that the privileges they enjoy today weren't always theirs. Now all girls go to school. Back then, very few could.
For a girl to get an education in the 19th century, she had to fight - against society, against her own parents, against the stereotypes that confined her to the home, taking care of others.
That's why my heroine is a girl.
I wanted today's children to understand that nothing beautiful happens on its own.
If they want something, they have to fight for it - just like poor Amalia from Kypseli did to become a teacher.
The little girl of the 19th century has all the qualities I wish for today's girls to acquire: intelligence, courage, persistence, imagination, and humor.
Because yes, girls can now become teachers - but even today, two centuries later, equality still hasn't been fully achieved..."
