Blood Over Bright Haven A Novel

Dieses Buch hat so viele Fassetten, dass es schwierig wird, es nur in eine Kategorie zu stecken. Es handelt von Frauenrechten, Migrationsrechten, Minderheiten, Religion und dazu voller (teils subtiler, teils sehr provokativer) Gesellschaftskritik. Es passt perfekt in unsere heutige Zeit, auch wenn das Setting sich gar nicht modern angefühlt hat. Es war gedankenanregend und hat mich dazu aufgefordert, meine eigenen Welt- und Gesellschaftseinstellungen auch einmal kritisch zu betrachten. Die Charaktere waren weit von "perfekt" entfernt, aber das hat sie so besonders und menschlich gemacht. Jede*r handelt aufgrund von intrinsischen Motiven und Erfahrungen, die moralisch mal hell- und mal dunkelgrau sind, aber niemals schwarz-weiß! Das Buch hat mich viel über Perspektiveinnahme und Gerechtigkeit gelehrt, und wie man über "richtig" und "falsch" abwägen sollte. Alles in Allem ein wirklich aufweckendes, erfrischendes Buch, was weltliche Probleme sehr spannend und sinnlich darstellt. Es hat wirklich meinen Erwartungen übertroffen!

Ich war noch nie ein Fan von großen Schnulzen, langweiliger Magie und einer Welt die keine Tiefe hat. Deswegen war dieses Buch perfekt. Die verbotene und sanfte Romanze die man über die Seiten hinweg erahnen kann ist wirklich eine bittersüße Liebe. Es ist das erstmal das ich mich nach mehr ersehnt habe. Das ausgeklügelte Magiesystem, welches stark an die moderne Programmiersprache erinnert war verblüffend. Zu Beginn hatte ich noch Probleme sie zu greifen aber je mehr Sciona erklärte desto mehr konnte ich dem Buch folgen und sogar vorausdenken. Der Höhepunkt des Buches ist natürlich diese fabelhafte Sozialkritik. Unser größter Feind ist nicht Mann vs Frau, sondern Arm vs Reich oder Mächtig vs Schwach. Und das wird in diesem Buch wunderbar auf den Punkt gebracht und mittfühlend durch die Charakterentwicklung von Sciona und Thomil.

I love this book! The whole word is complex and multi-layered, the character have a real depth to them and they all undergo fantastic developments, especially the female protagonist. Not all characters are likeable or easy to sympathise with, but they are written really well. The topics are heavy and the stakes are high! I really loved the female rage in this book!!! A wonderful and powerful stand alone, I highly recommend this book!

Cover to cover - this book was an amazing read. Surpressing entire groups of people is not a new concept in books, woman fighting societal standards and moving into fields dominated by males isn't either. But this book has an (for me) entirely new concept of magic, incredible truly. I loved every page! Even though orginally I was quiet happy with this being a stand-alone, now I wish there were more pages. I have questions, which have not been answered and probably never will. That aside I can honestly say, that reading "Blood over Bright Haven" was eye-opening in unexpected ways. You'll never know, who to trust and what people are willing to do - how far they will go - to keep their comfortable life or fight for a better one. !!! BEWARE: This book covers mass annihilation and graphic details about eviscerating people and living creatures. !!!

Blood over Bright Haven doesn’t hold back on its heavy themes and a setting that mirrors the real societal struggles we still face today. It offers complex characters, a devious magic system, steampunk elements and much more. One of the best books I’ve read all year.
