Rezension

Praise for How to Fake It in Society:

"An absolute romp of a book. Genderbent Georgette Heyer-style antics. I read it in one glorious day."-T. Kingfisher

"Charles combines a rollicking tale of murder, mayhem, and vengeance with a gorgeous romance about an adorably awkward hero and the rogue who sweeps him off his feet. A five-star read, as always." - Talia Hibbert, USA Today bestselling author

"How to Fake it in Society contains the usual KJ Charles charms: a smart, snappy voice; total yet easy immersion in another place and time; and irresistible characters who fall in love by truly seeing each other. But the real catnip for me was that this novel is also a treatise on the power of art, art being one of the consolations of the particular timeline we modern people find ourselves in."--Jenny Holiday, USA Today bestselling author of Canadian Boyfriend

"KJ Charles has an unmatched talent for putting uniquely lovable characters into uniquely riveting situations and in How to Fake it in Society, this talent is on full display. Charles takes a delightfully madcap premise and turns it into a tender, charming, and often hilarious love story. Come for the romance, stay for the conversations about what makes the perfect green pigment (hint: poison). I'm already looking forward to reading it again." - Emma Törzs, Sunday Times bestselling author of Ink Blood Sister Scribe

"How to Fake It in Society was so much fun I immediately tore through another half-dozen KJ Charles books. This one was absolutely delightful -- fun, gripping, funny, and hot."-Naomi Kritzer

"Surprising absolutely no one, KJ Charles has done it again. This book is extravagant with its pleasures: a lovely romance, precisely colorful period details, excellent side characters, and an enormously fun plot that verges on melodrama, with the helpful comparison of the real-life historical scandal it references to show us that people were, in fact, intriguing in wildly ridiculous ways back then." - Malka Older

"Charles is one of romance's most brilliant and consistent writers, delivering stories that adeptly blend historical intrigue, passionate yearning and flawless comedic timing." - Bookpage, starred review

"Titus and Nico's relationship is both sweet and steamy-and it's well-balanced against a darker subplot that adds intrigue...will leave readers satisfied." - Kirkus, starred review

"Delightful... Another fun and exciting historical romp from a genre star." - Library Journal, starred review

"Sparkling... [This] tale of intrigue, social pressure, and forbidden love is sure to please." - Publishers Weekly

Praise for KJ Charles:

"A high-heat epic"-Oprah Daily, on The Secret Lives of Country Gentlemen

"As always, Charles combines masterful prose, thrilling romance, fantastic wit, and gripping stakes. Her characters feel as real and relatable as a bruise. She is, in my opinion, a titan of her genre."-Talia Hibbert, on The Secret Lives of Country Gentlemen

"KJ Charles is one of the best romance novelists writing today. Historical romance at its finest." -Sarah MacLean, New York Times bestselling author, on The Secret Lives of Country Gentlemen

"Once again KJ Charles has produced an absolute masterpiece!" -Joanna Shupe, USA Today bestselling author

"A romantic, swashbuckling tale from start to finish."-Manda Collins, Bestselling Author of A Lady's Guide to Mischief and Mayhem

"The Duke at Hazard is my dream historical romance: emotional and intimate, but also full of wit, humor, and a lovable cast of supporting characters. The setting feels so vivid and alive, and every single interaction between the two heroes is pitch perfect. I loved every word of this book." -Martha Waters, author of To Woo and to Wed

"Charles successfully balances a complicated suspense plot and an emotionally resonant romance. ... This novel launches a delightful new Regency romance series from Charles; readers will be eagerly anticipating the next installment."-Library Journal, starred review, on The Secret Lives of Country Gentlemen

"A dark and stunning love story between a smuggler and a newly minted baronet. ... Readers will devour this ... a surprising number of beetles and newts for a romance." -Publishers Weekly, starred review, on The Secret Lives of Country Gentlemen

"The various financial and internecine quarrels are convincingly rendered and the supporting characters and setting finely textured, but it's the tenderness and steam that emanate from Gareth and Joss that really give the story its spark. Their relationship is deeply passionate, and they have a lovely way of communicating even when they don't have the language to articulate their feelings."-Book Page, starred review, on The Secret Lives of Country Gentlemen

"With humor and wit, Charles puts a unique, sensuous spin on the classic Regency Gretna Green elopement plot. This lively M/M romp explores the hard-hitting issues of racism, classism, and homophobia and delivers an enjoyable read as well." -Library Journal on Wanted, A Gentleman

"A great romance road trip ... a delicious Gothic feel, with a damsel in distress and a Snidely Whiplashesque villain throwing an upstanding gentleman and a lovable scoundrel together to save the day." -Washington Post on Wanted, A Gentleman

"Charles weaves an intricate web of deceit while maintaining honesty in the private emotions... [she] makes it easy to root for their happiness." -Shelf Awareness on How to Fake It in Society

Loved every word of the story

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

Titus is a shopkeeper who, upon making a delivery, finds himself marrying his elderly customer on her deathbed, and subsequently inheriting her fortune. Having been thrown in at the deep end and everyone from former and new acquaintances to estranged family wanting a piece of him, or rather his fortune, Titus has trouble finding his feet. Nico is a French noble who's fallen on hard times and was supposed to marry the elderly lady whose fortune Titus now owns. Instead of asking for money he's offering to show Titus the ropes, or How to Fake It in Society. Told in third person from Titus' and Nico's POV. Both MCs felt fleshed out nicely. There is a good cast of secondary characters. I enjoy KJC's writing and the research that went into crafting this novel. Actually, I enjoyed the novel so much, I started listening to the audiobook as soon as it was available on the publishing day of the US edition; narrator Will Watt did an excellent job.
