Rezension

Niven s signature ingredients: deep sensitivity, romance, poetry, and misunderstood, passionate characters. Now add a gothic mansion, a dangerous cliffside and a charismatic genius, and she s serving up a standout dark academia thriller. E. Lockhart, #1 New York Times bestselling author of We Were Liars

"A poignant story of young love, yearning, and the desire to live. Like the best gothic mysteries, this one is drenched in atmosphere and unease- a taut, exquisitely executed novel from start to finish." Kathleen Glasgow, New York Times bestselling author of The Glass Girl

"Fans of dark academia will enjoy this atmospheric story of art, lies, and redemption that features a lurking, slowly building sense of dread that grows throughout the novel. Leisurely and spine-tingling." Kirkus Reviews

"[A] satisfying psychological thriller." Publishers Weekly

"This homage to the works of Shirley Jackson and Lois Duncan is a sinister look at unchecked ambition and creativity pushed to the brink of madness." Booklist

"An upsettingly immersive storytelling workshop in this eerie and suspenseful YA psychological thriller." Shelf Awareness

Enticing, dark academia novel that sucks you right in!

Bewertung am 16.03.2026

Bewertungsnummer: 3078732

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

First of all, the cover is gorgeous. Half of the reason I bought it was because of the cover, lol. Effy gets a remarkable, one-in-a-lifetime, chance to prove her writing skills to the famous - the marvelous! - Meredith Graffam. If she impresses her (or even wins), then this whole thing is going to push her closer to her dream. Next to her, there are seven other students that got invited to Graffam's house. Only one will make it big, and Effy is determined to be that one person talented and lucky enough. The next sixteen days will decide it all. And then Meredith dies. Murdered, left for dead. Someone in this group hated this woman, this world renowed author, director and actress, so much that they'd take her life. What should have been a storytelling workshop with incredible learning opportunities turns into a crime scene straight out of a horror book. It's not just a simple "Whodunit?" murder, an open and shut case, so to speak. This was premetitated. And it was brutal. What do you do when the monster isn't under your beds anymore, but amongst yourselves?
