Portrait

Azrul Azlan Hamzah is a Professor of Micro-Nanoelectromechanical Systems (MEMS/NEMS) and currently the Director of Institute of Microengineering and Nanoelectronics (IMEN), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. He received his BSc. from the University of California at Berkeley, USA in manufacturing engineering in 2000 and PhD from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in microelectromechanical systems in 2008. His research interests are graphene synthesis and technology, bioMEMS, artificial kidney, biomedical devices, Lab-on-Chip, micro/nano energy, MEMS technology and MEMS packaging. He leads several projects funded by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation Malaysia (MOSTI) and Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia (MoHE) in development of MEMS and bioMEMS devices. He also leads the HiCoE (MEMS for artificial kidney) project and is involved in NanoMITE (vertically aligned graphene) project under the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia. He has published more than 200 international journals and technical papers. He was the auditor and current committee member for Malaysia Nanotechnology Association (MNA) and senior member of Electron Devices Society of IEEE Malaysia Section (SMIEEE).

Jumril Yunas is an associate Professor at Institute of Microengineering and Nanoelectronics (IMEN), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. He obtained his Ph.D. in 2008 from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in MEMS (Microelectromechanical System) devices and technology and Dipl.-Ing. in 1997 from the University of Technology RWTH Aachen in Germany in semiconductor technology. He started his academic career as Research Staff at Research Center for Electronic and Telecommunication - LIPI Indonesia in 1997, then as Research Fellow at Chiba University, Japan in 2003 and Senior Research Fellow at UKM in 2009. He is a Senior Member of the institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (IEEE), Fellow of International Association of Advanced Materials (IAAM) and member of American Chemical Society (ACS). His research interests are in the development of MEMS and nanoelectronics device and technology for biomedical, communication and energy alternative application. His current research projects include the development of MEMS microfluidics for drug delivery and lab-on-chip system, development of nanoelectronic materials as well as the development of energy harvesting devices for wireless powering of the autonomous electronics devices. He published more than 100 high index international Journal papers, more than 50 international conference proceedings; and 5 patents, all in the field of MEMS and nanoelectronics.

Professor Dr. Anis Nurashikin Nordin is a Microelectronics engineer and researcher at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She obtained her B. Eng. in Computer Engineering from IIUM and both her MSc and Doctor of Science in Microelectronics and VLSI from The George Washington University, Washington DC in 2003 and 2008 respectively. She has been teaching courses in Electronics Engineering at IIUM since 2003. She has extensive international collaborative networks and has served as an invited researcher for Linkoping University, Sweden, City College of New York, USA, Griffith University, Australia and University of Twente, Holland. Her area of specialization is in the field of Micro-electro-mechanical Systems (MEMS). She has received both international and local grants to fund her research. Her current research is in the field of biosensors among them a dengue sensor, impedance sensor for drug screening and strain sensor for hand gestures. Her other devices include micro-resonators, micro-sensors, energy harvesters and supercapacitors. Her innovations have been well received and have been awarded gold and silver medals in both international and local exhibitions such as IENA in Nuremberg, British Invention Show in London. She currently holds two US-patents. She has received several awards in recent years namely the Leaders in Innovation Fellowship by the Royal Academy of Engineering, United Kingdom and the Top Research Scientist Malaysia in 2020.
