    Buch (Gebundene Ausgabe)

    Buch (Gebundene Ausgabe)

A retelling that is kind of good but then again it's not (?)

I started reading this series without any knowledge about the plot, characters etc. It took me quite a few pages to realise that it was a retelling of (spoilers!) Beauty and the Beast. To be honest, after realising that it was a story I had already heard (of course a bit differently) it was much easier to read. In the beginning it just felt familiar which made the story a bit lame (I know it was kind of my fault for not understanding what the story was referring to) but I just felt as if Sarah J. Maas could have added a "little something" to the retelling so that there was another aspect with a little twist or something like that. The whole story with the antagonist was quite good but I feel like it needs a bit more time (maybe one or two more books) to develop fully which means that I'm looking forward to reading the following books in the series! On the other hand, I absolutely adored how the characters were written. Every point that was lost for the rather weak story was made up with incredibly well-written characters! I can't wait to get to know them better and I hope that Sarah J. Maas is going to keep adding more to these complex characters.

    Highly Overrated

I red this book because many people, who like fantasy dark romance novels, recommended it. For all the hype the book has gotten, it turned out to be surprisingly disappointing. Reading the story felt like rereading a combination of other books I already know. The plot was very predictable most of the time and there were no big surprises. The narrative speed was messed up as well. The first half of the book was narrated very slowly, paying much attention to the environment. Then, in the second half the speed suddenly rushed up extremely. Event happened after event and the time-distance dependency disappeared completely. It felt like the author was running out of ideas and wanted to finish the book as quickly as possible. Pity. As for the characters, I didn’t warm with them. The female main character was blunt and rather annoying. There were several times I gave myself a face palm while reading because her thoughts and actions were nothing but dumb. Unfortunately, also the male main character wasn’t as cool as I thought he could have been. The evil guy however was written extremely well. I wish he had more screen / page time, because he was a very interesting character. But as the rest of the book gave me rather “meh” moments I will not read any of the following books.

Feyre Darling, Blink Twice If You’re Not Okay

A Court of Thorns and Roses? More like A Court of Red Flags and Terrible Decisions. Feyre starts off as a hunter and ends up as a doormat with a paintbrush, falling for a guy whose main love language is vague threats and magical gaslighting. Beauty and the Beast? Sure—if Belle had zero boundaries and thought Stockholm Syndrome was a vibe

    Highlight
