"The Corner House Girls' Odd Find" by Grace Brooks Hill is a delightful tale centered around the Kenway sisters-Ruth, Agnes, Tess, and Dot-who reside in the historic Corner House in Milton. As Christmas approaches, the girls are busy preparing for the festivities, decorating the house, and setting up a grand Christmas tree. Their preparations are interrupted by a series of amusing and mysterious events, including a young boy named Sammy Pinkney who attempts to descend the chimney dressed as Santa Claus, only to get stuck and cause a commotion. The story takes a curious turn when Agnes discovers an old family album in the attic, which turns out to be filled with what appears to be valuable railroad bonds and counterfeit money. The children, along with their friend Neale O'Neil, are intrigued by the find, but they soon realize that the documents are likely worthless. Despite this, the discovery adds an element of mystery and excitement to their holiday season. The narrative is rich with humor, family dynamics, and the spirit of Christmas, as the girls navigate their way through the holiday with warmth and camaraderie. The story also touches on themes of friendship, curiosity, and the joy of unexpected discoveries, making it a charming read for young audiences.
