This book is a historical account of the conflict between the Dutch colonial government and various local rebellions in Central Java in the early 19th century. The author, George Nypels, was a Dutch scholar who had firsthand experience of the region and its people. He provides a detailed and nuanced analysis of the political, economic, and cultural factors underlying the conflict, and also offers insights into the lives and struggles of the Javanese people who were caught up in the events. This book is an important resource for anyone interested in the history of colonialism in Southeast Asia.
