This book provides an in-depth look at the Society of Merchant Adventurers, a prominent Elizabethan guild based in the city of Exeter. It offers a detailed account of the guild's activities and organization during the latter half of the 16th century, a period of great economic and social change in England. The author, William Cotton, was a respected historian and antiquarian who devoted much of his career to the study of guilds and trade associations in England.
