Peculiar pet shops. Troublesome dream homes. And robot vacuums that just want to be free Looking for a captivating, quick escape from reality? The Great Escape's fifteen tales of myth, magic, and whimsy provide just that. Ranging from beguiling magical realism to laugh-out-loud silliness to dark (but not too dark) fantasy, this anthology packs a delightful punch. Inside, you'll discover vacations gone enchantingly wrong, questionable business practices, worrying parental habits, misbehaving reptiles, and Norse gods in a serious bind. With each story readers also get a behind-the-scenes peek into the author's world with a tasty tidbit detailing how the tale came to life. Some stories have a little violence (nothing gruesome) and mild cursing, but no "on-screen" hanky panky (a giant does have some off-screen fun, but I'll leave you to discover that one). The Great Escape is perfect for fans of:The quirky contemporary fantasy and whimsical humor of Terry Pratchett, C.K. McDonnell, or Jodi Taylor. Witty, fast-paced fantasy anthologies that keep you flipping pages with unexpected twists and turns. Lighthearted humorous fantasy with a clever comedic edge, and darker fantasy that delivers only the tiniest of shivers. Genre-blending short stories that offer a little bit of something for everyone. What readers are saying..."Expect witty and fun tales that will leave you thinking about them for days... a highly enjoyable read." -Bookbub Review "One thing you can always count on with this author's works is a whimsical, heartfelt experience... Each story flows wonderfully and keeps you flipping pages with each twist and turn." - Jonathan Pongratz, author of Reaper "Tammie is such a gifted storyteller and I loved the mix of different genres all in one book. There's something for everyone woven throughout them." - Goodreads Review "...an entertaining and enjoyable read." - Jack Allen, The Eugene Review About The Collection The Great Escape is the ultimate creative bridge for fans of Tammie Painter's ever-expanding literary universe. These fifteen stories highlight the early sparks of imagination, humor, and lore that eventually grew into the author's hit urban fantasy series, The Cassie Black Trilogy, and her cozy mystery series, The Circus of Unusual Creatures. The fifteen stories include... The Great Escape, Grave Bargains, Buttercup: Queen of Death, The Drive-Thru Window, Testing the Waters, The Back Room, The Liar of Lilløya, Space Walk, Moonlight Cruise, The Ghost of Arlen Hall, A Case of Mamma's Love, Dragon Trouble, The Secret Eater, A Feast for Sight, and Champ.
