Ariadne

Ariadne by Jennifer Saint moved me deeply. The novel retells the well-known Greek myth from the perspective of the women involved—with great empathy, emotional depth, and elegant prose. I especially appreciated the alternating perspectives of Ariadne and her sister Phaedra. Both women have distinct voices and compelling character arcs that unfold powerfully throughout the book. The writing is calm yet impactful, and the character development feels authentic and gripping. What affected me most was the quiet sense of tragedy woven through the story—and how clearly themes like power, powerlessness, and female strength are portrayed. This isn’t a typical hero’s tale, but a novel about self-determination, loss, sisterhood, and what remains when the myth ends. A story that lingers long after the last page—I wholeheartedly recommend it.

If you like history and you would like to understand better the war of troy, I recommend you reading this book. You will see the point of view of three women and how they fought through the patriarchy. I ended up loving Cassandra, to me she was the best character but everybody will feel connected with someone different. A 5 star read for sure!

Once you get started you can't put it down. It is so refreshing to read greek mythology from a female perspective. You feel with her and what she goes through. 10/10 would recommend!

Ich finde es toll die weibliche Perspektive von Mythologie lesen zu können, vieles ist heute noch relevant. Kann ich nur empfehlen!

Den Mythos der Ariadne kannte ich bereits, weswegen es umso schöner war, die neu interpretierte Geschichte zu lesene. Am Anfang zog es sich ein wenig und das Ende war wirklich unerwartet, ich hatte es mir etwas romantischer erhofft, aber ich denke, dass es halt 'den point prooft', dass Frauen unter den Launen von Göttern und Halbgöttern litten. Ansonsten war es ein wirklich sehr gutes Buch, das ich nicht aus der Hand legen konnte!
