Carrie Soto Is Back A Novel

Taylor Jenkins Reid ist eine meiner absoluten Lieblingsautorinnen, weswegen ich sehr gespannt auf dieses Buch war, da ich bereits viele positive Meinungen dazu gehört hatte. Die Autorin schafft es immer wieder, mir ein Lächeln auf die Lippen zu zaubern, indem sie andere Charaktere aus ihren weiteren Büchern erwähnt bzw. in diesem Buch wurde auch explizit die fiktive Biographie von Daisy Jones and the Six genannt. Auch der Bezug zu Malibu Rising wurde wieder hergestellt, wobei mir dieses Buch erst richtig neugierig auf die Geschichte von Carrie Soto gemacht hatte. Ich mag diese kleinen Verbindungen zwischen den Büchern, weil es sich dadurch einfach ein bisschen wie eine eigene Welt anfühlt. Carrie Soto als Protagonistin habe ich nicht unbedingt direkt als sympathisch, aber als sehr interessant empfunden. Zunächst zeigt sie noch ihre kindliche Freude, aber nach und nach wird aus ihr ein Profi, der keine weiteren Gefühle zeigt. Ich fand diese Entwicklung, wie sie zunächst erfolgreich wurde, super interessant und auch die Tennis-Begriffe haben mir keine Schwierigkeiten bereitet, obwohl ich keine Kenntnisse darüber habe. Der Fokus des Buches lag allerdings auf ihrem Comeback. Während ihres Trainings, um ihren Rekord zurückzuholen bzw. einen neuen aufzustellen lernt der Leser sehr viel – nicht nur über Carries Soto Umgang mit anderen Personen, sondern auch die Einstellung zu sich selbst ändert sich während des Buches. Ich fand es unglaublich schön, wie die Beziehung zu ihrem Vater dargestellt wurde. Der Konflikt zwischen Trainer auf der einen und Vater auf der anderen Seite wurde deutlich und ich habe Javier sehr schnell in mein Herz geschlossen, da man merkt, was für eine unglaublich liebe, führsorgliche Person er ist, aber dass er auch hart sein kann, wenn es darauf ankommt. Auch für Carrie entwickelte ich nach und nach Sympathie. Sie weckte bei mir während des Lesens widersprüchliche Gefühle, aber irgendwie mochte ich sie trotzdem, da man merkt, dass sie ein guter Mensch ist, der zunächst Erfolg und Ehrgeiz über alles steht. Ihre persönliche Entwicklung konnte mich ebenfalls sehr berühren. Begleitet wurden diese spannenden Charaktere durch einen fesselnden Schreibstil, der mich nicht mehr losließ. Obwohl ich keine Ahnung von Tennis hatte, ergab alles für mich einen Sinn und ich empfand die Matches als super spannend. Insgesamt ist dieses Buch neben Malibu Rising zu meinem Lieblingsbuch der Autorin geworden. Die Figuren in der Geschichte sind so vielschichtig, dass man mit ihnen mitfiebert und eine emotionale Beziehung zu ihnen aufbauen kann. Neben Tennis und Erfolg werden so viele andere Thematiken in diesem Buch behandelt wie beispielsweise die Beziehung von Vater und Tochter, was mich tief berühren konnte. Für mich eine absolute Leseempfehlung!

I am a very loyal Taylor Jenkins Reid reader and still with this book I was skeptical. I've never had any points of contacts with tennis ever in my life. But this book is not just about tennis, it's about relationships, family dynamics and character development - as all of her books are :) So what can I say? I fell in love with this book and couldn't stop reading until it was finished exactly a week after I started with the first sentence. It took me a couple of pages to arrive in this tennis world, to get used to it and then I did not want it to end. In my opinion the book got better and better chapter by chapter, more interesting, more fascinating and Taylor created more and more depth while the story unfolded. I loved it! It's a very easy read and it won't let go of you until you've reached the last page. Go and have fun with it!

Wow, just wow. This book was one of my most anticipated releases this year, and I have to say, I was not disappointed. As someone who has read several of TJR's books, I can confidently say that while they were good, they never quite reached the level of spectacular that Evelyn Hugo did. However, with this latest release, I found myself completely engrossed in the story of Carrie Soto. The way that TJR portrays the love and dedication that Carrie has for her sport, and the support that she receives from those around her, is truly heartwarming. Watching as she fights to become the best tennis player, and then later realizing that winning isn't always the most important thing, was a beautiful journey to witness. While this book may not surpass the incredible storytelling of Evelyn Hugo, I still found myself giving it a solid 4.5 out of 5 stars. The themes of perseverance, dedication, and the importance of support are ones that I will carry with me for a long time.

I don’t really know much about tennis. Neither am I really interested in this sport. Still Taylor Jenkins-Reid made this an extremely interesting (and easy understandable in terms of the tennis thing) book. Carrie Soto is such an interesting and layered character. On some pages you like her and on some not so much. Reid masters to turn the story in just the right moment and twists the plot to her will.

I've been a fan of Andre Agassi and thus seen many matches in the 90s. But solely of men playing tennis, and besides Agassi I wouldn't say that I'm a tennis fan. Although some matches are truly very exciting to watch. But I don't read this book because tennis interests me so much but rather because Taylor Jenkins Reid is so gifted writing stories that she can get me interested in any topic. This already worked very well with "Daisy Jones and the Six", a ficticious-documentary novel about the music industry of the 70s, and also with "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo" about the 'Golden Age' of the movies. Now we have a novel set in the sports world. Because of the competitive nature of the sport, this has a certain amount of thrill. And of course I rooted for our titel character Carrie Soto, even though she is not liked by many people in this book (and I could relate to that on some accounts considering her remarks to opponents or the press). Still, I kept my finger's crossed for her. But in the end, it (almost) didn't matter who was the winner of a match in the end. I just enjoyed the whole story and Jenkins Reid's way of telling it. With the news articles and transcripts of sport shows inserted into the narrative it also became a touch of authenticity.
