The story started off lighthearted as it tells the story of a supposedly unassuming boy growing up in an unassuming village. However things changed when an enemy invasion happened. Relationships, identities and future are bound to change. The story is being told in a slow pace, “steampunky” setting. I give it a 5 star rating as I like the story which is somewhat similar to Golden Terrace, one of my favourite novels. The battles are excitedly told and I can imagine the author’s visionary glimpse of the retrofuturistic world. I’m waiting for future release…

The story is really intriguing. It has great worldbuilding with a good mix between Chinese historical and steampunk elements, and while some things might have been a bit confusing at first it was easy getting used to it. The story starts slowly but once it picked up in pace I was hooked! The characters are really likeable as well. I can’t wait for the next novel.
