When Joyce's controversial novel, Ulysses, is banned, Beach decides to publish it under the umbrella of Shakespeare and Company. But the success and fame that come with publishing the most controversial and influential novel of the century comes at very high costs: the rivalry of other publishers who want Joyce for themselves. Her dearest relationships are put to the test as Paris falls into the Great Depression. Faced with a major personal and financial crisis, Sylvia must decide what Shakespeare and Company means to her.
