Frequently we use the term 'fatigue' to describe a person who can no longer provide efforts, suggesting that they have reached a threshold which cannot be crossed. The term also applies to structures that support loads that are repeated until failure. In the first case, the person no longer provides work, and, in the second case, the ruined structure is no longer in service so there is a certain similarity between the two cases.
