Set On You TikTok made me buy it!

I'm absolutely in love with the story. Crystal & Scott were so cute I didn't want to finish this book. It has "taboo subjects" but it's still light-hearted. I'm so excited for the next book from Amy Lea.

It’s about accepting and respecting yourself, while realizing there is so much more to you than just your body.“ Crystal Chen has made a name for herself as a fitness influencer and advocate for body positivity. Trolls that judge her for being too curvy for her line of work hardly even bother her anymore. Someone who brings her blood to boil, however, is fireman Scott Ritchie. Stealing her favourite squat rack just won’t do and she’d be happy to never lay eyes on him again. Their subbornness and competitiveness aren‘t the only things they have in common, though, and soon they’ll be seeing a whole lot more of each other than they expected… I really enjoyed reading this book. It’s rather fun to follow the progression of Crystal and Scott’s relationship and their banter is just hilarious to me. The characters are fleshed out really well, with interesting back stories and realistic struggles which make them all the more lovable and relatable. I like that „Set On You“ isn’t „only“ a love story, but that it also touches on subjects like loss, racism, unrealistic societal standards and cyber bullying. Despite including those rather serious topics, the book gives off an overall positive and hopeful vibe and stresses the importance of body respect and self-acceptance, which I really appreciate. If you are looking for a romantic comedy that isn’t only swoon-worthy, entertaining and occasionally a little steamy, but also has a good message to it, I highly recommend you read „Set On You“. I, for one, am already keeping my eyes peeled for Amy Lea’s next novel.

Das Cover besticht mit den beiden Protagonisten Crystal und Scott, die in einem Fitnesssetting sind, passend zu dem Handlungsort. Die Abwechslung zum Curycharakter in einem Liebesroman begrüße ich immer sehr und es freut mich, dass diese Art von Büchern nun auch in Deutschland Fuß fassen. Der Schreibstil gefiel mir leider nicht so ganz, er war an manchen Stellen zu gezwungen, wodurch mir die Protagonisten auch nicht sympathisch wurden. Die Liebesgeschichte selbst wirkte auch erzwungen und es kam kein Knistern zwischen den beiden auf, was ja eigentlich der Kernpunkt eines Romance-Buches ist. Crystal selbst möchte für ihren Körper akzeptiert werden und redet von Selbst-Liebe, wirft aber selbst die ganze Zeit mit Vorurteilen durch die Gegend, was ich etwas gegensätzlich fand. Daher kann ich das Buch nur bedingt empfehlen und habe mir leider auch etwas anderes erhofft.

Ich liebe es und springe auf den booktok Hype an. Für mich eine der besten RomCom des Jahres: ich habe gelacht, die Bodypositivity gefühlt, die Instakarriere mitverfolgt, die Familienepisoden geliebt, und die Chemie zwischen Crystel und Scott war mega gut geschrieben. An dieser Stelle ein grosses Lob an die Übersetzerin, sie hat die Vibes des Buchs supergut eingefangen und übersetzt. Was als eine lockerer RomCom daher kommt, wird mit wichtigen Themen verknüpft. So ist Crystal als Frau mit Formen und asiatischer Herkunft, zudem noch Fitnessinfluencerin eine sehr gelungene Protagonistin. Es wird so gut thematisiert und ich konnte es immer voll nachvollziehen. Ein grosser Pluspunkt ist für mich das Ende und dass es überhaupt nicht auf den Spice reduziert wird. Hier wird es eher angedeutet als ausgeschrieben -ungewohnt bei RomComs aber für mich perfekt. Ich habe es in einem Rutsch durchgelesen und werde mir auch die anderen Bücher von Amy holen.
