Normal people

Normal People felt very soft and calm to me. The writing was gentle, and everything flowed in a quiet, emotional way that I really enjoyed. I liked the atmosphere a lot, and the relationships felt real and tender. The only thing that was a bit confusing for me was the lack of quotation marks in the dialogue. Sometimes, when the characters were talking, it wasn’t clear who was speaking, and I had to reread parts to understand. Still, overall, it was a really nice book and I liked it a lot.

When I started reading this book, I was really annoyed because the author does not use any quotation marks, which often made it difficult to understand where spoken speech started or ended. But in the end, that may have actually been the point. It was one of the devices that made this book such a powerful read. A book about living without clarity, about not wanting to name things, hoping that that will take away their power. I found it a slow read, and I think it should be a slow read because there is so much to think about, and so much to feel behind the words. A book about normal people. How they deal with power. How they deal with class. How they deal with love. How they discover , express and deal with feelings. And all of that at such a natural, human level. Wonderful!

Normal people is a masterpiece of emoitional depth and quiet intensity. The relationship between Connell and Marianne ist beautifully raw, capturing the complexities of love, identity and connection. Rooneys writing is deeply empathetic, making every moment feel intimate and real. Such a stunning book, one of my favourites!

If heartbreak were a book, it would be this one. It's about two people, connected by fate or some greater power, who drift apart over and over again, yet always seem to find their way back to each other. Strangers to friends, eventually lovers, and back to strangers again—but not really, because no matter what, these two will always love one another. Marianne and Connell captured my heart in the most special way. Truly, one of my all-time favorite books. Plus, the title really couldn't be more fitting.
