Nelson, J: Sky Is Everywhere Film Tie-in

Ein wunderschöner Jugendroman, der sich auf einfühlsame Art und Weise mit der Frage auseinandersetzt, was es heißt, nach dem Tod eines geliebten Menschens Weiterzuleben. Trotz der Schwere des Themas bleibt aber auch der Humor nicht zu kurz und so hat Jandy Nelson ein Buch geschaffen, das man nur schwer wieder aus der Hand legen kann.

If you’re looking for a love story, but not a classic one where girl meets boy, they fall in love and marry each other, this book would be the right choice! The main character is dealing with the loss of her sister, and moaning her death while facing “boy problems” is not easy. Toby, her sister’s boyfriend, is catching her eye and there’s Joe, the towns newbie, who everyone seems to fall in love with. A book about dealing with loss, love, family and music; accompanied by poems written by the main character.

What was really nice in this book, were the pages with little "handwritten" texts from Lennie, the protagonist. And the story definitly did have some awesome moment but I couldn't handle the main topic. I couldn't help to judge Lennie. She is just a terrible human being the bigger part of the book. I understand her grief and loneliness but not at all how she dealt with it. This problem kept me from bonding with her. I didn't care for her feelings or well being because I always felt like she deserved everything by making one stupid decision after the other. It's not only her but she is the main character, so that bothered me the most. If this story was told from a boys point of view, there'd be hate all over the place... The last few chapters got better. I finally started to relate a little bit to Lennie's thoughts and actions. Here the beauty other people see in this book was finally visible to me. I just wished it had started earlier. I'm not sure whether or not I will be able to bring myself to read another book from Jandy Nelson, but I've only heard good things about "I'll give you the sun".
