The use of P solubilisers as inoculants simultaneously increases P uptake by plants and crop yield. The principal mechanism for mineral P solubilisation is the production of organis acids, chelating agents, mineral acids and phosphatases. A number of bacterial, fungal, yeast and Actinomycetes species capable of solubilising sparingly soluble P in pure culture have been isolated from rhizosphere of soil.
