Rebellion, rapture, and razor-bright thought: Percy Bysshe Shelley at full force, set beside a searching nineteenth-century mind. Shelley still changes the air. George G. Foster gathers the poet's work as a classic poetry anthology that reads like a guided encounter with the british romantic era. Alongside the complete shelley poems comes a substantial frame of biography and literary criticism: a biographical and critical notice of Shelley, and essays on poetic faculty that ask how verse shapes character, conscience, and the public world. The result is collected romantic poetry with a romantic poetry critical introduction that clarifies themes of liberty, love, nature, idealism, and the costs of vision, while tracing the poetic imagination and destiny that fuelled one of the most daring english romantic poets. Across odes, lyrics, drama, and satire, the volume maps his range - from intimate song to prophetic argument - and keeps the language urgent, sensuous, and precise. Art, argument: line by line. For casual readers, it offers a rich path into lyric intensity and argumentative music; for collectors, a coherent historical presentation from nineteenth century england, when Shelley was becoming a central figure in English letters. For literature students, it supports close reading and context in an english poetry course text, illuminating the conversations and controversies that surround Shelley's reputation and influence. Republished by Alpha Editions in a careful modern edition, this volume preserves the spirit of the original while making it effortless to enjoy today - a heritage title prepared for readers and collectors alike.
