In seven large chapters, the volume deals with the history of Christianity from the late Middle Ages to the Reformation in the German-speaking world and in Europe, the confessional age, the age of Pietism and Enlightenment, the "long 19th century" and the "short 20th century". The presentation aims above all to reveal the major connections and lines of development. It is intended to provide prospective pastors and teachers of religion with a historically founded understanding of the form of Christianity with which they currently deal in their sphere of activity. At the same time, it provides the basic framework of the most important names and dates necessary for orientation and examination purposes.
