i find the dynamic between paul and julian is so haunting, excessive and compelling. to be in the mind of these two young, traumatized and troubled teenagers that drown in eachother and the world alike, was an experience that had me on my toes for all of its 460 pages. the setting was compelling, the story and its characters intricate and evocative. if youre someone that particularly enjoys coming of age, psychological and thrilling stories this is book is for you. !! (spoiler warning: the ending in its uncertainty grabbed me so intensely, with its similarity to pauls obsession to those pretty butterflies and insects and why that matters in his perspective on and about julian. how throughout the story your perspective on who is more the perpetrator and monster shifts extensively, only to end up with even more ??!!!??! over your head.) loved it!!!
