The Royals Next Door

I read The royals next door by Karina Halle last year and I absolutely love royal romances and this one is very special as it is with the bodyguard of a royal. Piper is an elementary school teacher and lives in the guest house of a huge property with her mother. Her life is rather quiet and reclusive, but that changes when a royal prince and princess move in next to her. She is also very passionate about romance books and I loved that so much and it was very relatable. Harrison is the bodyguard of the royals and he is a very brooding man. But underneath this tough exterior lies a man with a beautiful heart and I loved to see more of him with each page. Both Piper and Harrison have caring personalities and with their growing attraction for each other they need to figure out how much they are willing to give for their own happily ever after. I just adore these two together and highly recommend to read their story.

„The Royals Next Door“ is a feel-good romance and the perfect summer read for romantics. Piper’s life on Salt Spring Island is pretty uneventful, but that’s just how she likes it. It lets her dedicate her spare time to her romance podcast and her mother, who lives with mental illness. But when British royals move in right next to her, her peaceful and reclusive life is about to end. It isn’t the media attention that unsettles her most, though, but the royals‘ brooding bodyguard Harrison… I really enjoyed reading this book. It is light-hearted, fun and the characters are just adorable. I loved Piper and Harrison’s dynamic from the start and really appreciated the progression of their relationship. It feels pretty natural, not unnecessarily rushed and I loved how honest they are with one another. I am also a big fan of the royals, especially Monica, and really like Piper’s mother, even though she is responsible for some of the drama that occurs. They are great characters and the author shows very well that Monica and Eddie as well as Piper’s mom are human and should not be reduced to their social standing nor illness. I really do appreciate that Karina Halle incorporated mental health issues in this book to raise awareness rather than make it the obstacle that has to be overcome. A big pet peeve of mine is when shortly before the story’s conclusion there’s a big misunderstanding that threatens the happy ending. I am very glad that this book does without that annoying plot device. If you are looking for a fun, cute and wholesome read, you should definitely check out „The Royals Next Door“.
