A whole new angle on the world’s beloved Saint Francis of Assisi: a story told in the form of linked poems about the amazing life of "Francesco" who went from wealthy man-about-town to family rebel to great spiritual leader who transformed the Church forever. This followed Francis’s public break with his father, Pietro, a figure hidden by history but the catalyst for dramatic and lasting change in Christianity. Follow il poverino, "the little poor man" as he reinvents our concept of holiness. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of Medieval Italy, the scenes unfold, replete with conflicts, reversals, and a moving resolution. Told with wit and lyrical description, this story will stay with you past the last page. Let historical novelist, Marcy Heidish, lead you through one of the most significant journeys in Western Europe. The founder of a famed Monastic Order, Francis also acted as a missionary to Egypt's Sultan, a minister to Assisi's lepers, and a master of mystical prayer. After nearly 800 years and thousands of words, this portrait of Francis is fresh, compelling and beautifully rendered.
