Swimming in the Dark

wow, i devoured this in one day on holiday. the story is incredibly gripping, the characters very lovable and you just have to root for them every step of the way. Such an important story as well, and written in an informative yet emotional way.

This book is a quite masterpiece masking as a soviet era love story. This book evoked real anger, real tears and the realisation that love, sometimes, is not all that is needed for it to work sometimes.

ich kann nicht aufhören über dieses buch nachzudenken. die welt in die wir eintauchen können ist voller verschiedener starker emotionen: von erster liebe zur wut gegenüber dem politischen system. es ist interessant, da man einen eindruck zur politischen und kulturellen situation in polen 1980 bekommt, aber auch wie es sich auf dieses liebespaar ausprägt. beide haben eine andere ansicht und ideen wie sie mit den erwartungen und regeln umgehen sollen. das ende ist sowohl bedrückend als auch inspirierend. es ist so gut gelungen.

Dieses Buch hat mich tief berührt. Die innere Zerrissenheit des Protagonisten wird so authentisch und nachvollziehbar dargestellt, dass ich vollkommen in seine Welt eintauchen konnte. Geschichten wie diese sind unglaublich wichtig – nicht nur, weil sie Sichtbarkeit schaffen, sondern weil sie vielen Menschen einen Raum der Identifikation geben. Wir brauchen definitiv mehr solcher Bücher. Absolut empfehlenswert!

Maybe it's the fact that I myself come from a post Communism country, and I love reading about that time period that made me love this book or the amazing characters you can't help but love and hate. This book was just a fun read all around it made me feel so many emotions for happiness and delight to sadness and frustration. I would recommend this to everyone.
