"Felix Ever After" ist eine herzzerreißend-emotionale Geschichte rund um das Queersein, Liebe, Identität und Selbstfindung - aber auch Mobbing, Rassismus und Transfeindlichkeit. Kacen Callenders Schreibsstil ist atmosphärisch und leicht zu verstehen, die Protagonisten wirken unfassbar nah und lebendig. Dabei hat die Autor:in unfassbar gute und diverse Repräsentation erschaffen. Alles in allem ist "Felix Ever After" ein gelungener, rührender Jugendroman, dem ich jeder queeren Person - aber auch nicht-queeren Personen, die ihre Mitmenschen einfach nur ein wenig besser verstehen wollen - ans Herz legen kann!

There is a wonderful narrative arc in Felix Ever After which allows the reader to be taken up in this bubbly romance in a easy yet compelling read. It is a novel one could read in a sitting and raises important questions around gender and sexual identity and self-acceptance. I would definitely recommend the book to its target audience, i.e. young adults. While countering the underrepresentation of cultural minorities in the LGBTQIA+ community as well as portraying a transgender main character, some aspects of the book are quite predictable. The focus is clearly on Felix’ character and his perception of the people with respect to him. His family’s reaction (or lack thereof) to his transition take a big part of the book. There are a couple of inconsistencies that might slightly disturb the reading flow, but all in all, it’s a easy, bubbly, romancy read. What Felix achieves in the scope of this book is to find his own gender and sexual identity and might empower its reader to question and find their own identity not through other’s people validation but self-love and self-acceptance.
